What is a pinhole camera?
A pinhole camera is a simple type of camera that doesn’t use a lens. Instead, it has a tiny hole—called a pinhole—that lets light in. I made mine using an empty can of peas. Inside the can, I placed light-sensitive photographic paper. When light enters through the pinhole, it projects an upside-down image onto the paper.
Why is the image a negative?
The brighter areas in the scene make the paper darker, and the darker areas stay lighter—so the result is a negative image. Later, I scan the paper and digitally invert the colors to reveal the final photo.
